Kenektic, Inc. (“Kenektic,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Kenektic website and application (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
•Account information — email address, first name, last name, display name, date of birth, and password when you create an account.
•Profile information — city, state, biography, gender, pronouns, and profile photo.
•Conversations with kAI — the messages you send to kAI, our AI companion.
•Direct messages — messages you exchange with other users through matches and communities.
•Memory board content — photos, posts, comments, and reactions you share on your memory board.
•Sharing preferences — your choices about what profile information can be shared with matches.
•Contact form submissions — your name, email, and message when you contact us.
1.2 Information Derived by AI
kAI analyzes your conversations to better understand you and connect you with compatible people. This AI-derived information includes:
•Interests and hobbies — topics you mention enjoying, categorized by type (sports, music, travel, etc.) with a confidence score.
•Personal facts — factual information you share about your life, such as your occupation, living situation, or health context. Sensitive categories (health, relationships) are marked as non-shareable by default.
•Family and social circle — names and relationship details of people and pets you mention.
•Personality profile — communication style, humor preferences, conversational patterns, and a personality type classification.
•Emotional state — current mood, mood trends, and whether you may be going through a difficult period.
•Connection profile — your social needs, ideal match preferences, and readiness to meet new people.
1.3 Age Verification Information
When age verification is enabled, we may collect a selfie photograph and estimated age through our verification providers. If document-based verification is used, your date of birth is confirmed from the document. Verification selfies are stored securely and are not publicly accessible.
1.4 Automatically Collected Information
•Usage events — actions such as signing in, sending a message, requesting a match, or updating your profile. These events do not contain message content.
•Cookies and local storage — authentication tokens and session data. See our Cookies Policy for details.
2. How We Use Your Information
•Provide the Service — power conversations with kAI, generate match introductions, facilitate direct messaging, and operate communities.
•Personalize your experience — remember things you've shared, understand your personality and interests, and tailor kAI's responses to you.
•Find compatible connections — use your interests, personality, location, and preferences to match you with people you're likely to connect with.
•Safety and moderation — detect crisis situations, moderate content, and enforce our community guidelines.
•Verify identity and age — confirm you are who you say you are and meet minimum age requirements.
•Improve our Service — analyze aggregate usage patterns and refine kAI's capabilities. We do not sell your data for advertising.
•Comply with law — meet legal obligations including U.S. state AI chatbot transparency laws and age verification requirements.
3. AI Disclosure
kAI is an artificial intelligence. kAI is not a human, cannot feel emotions, and does not provide professional medical, legal, mental health, or financial services. Your conversations with kAI are processed by third-party AI models (see Section 5) to generate responses and extract the information described in Section 1.2.
kAI's crisis detection system monitors conversations for signs of self-harm, suicidal ideation, or intent to harm others. When detected, kAI provides professional crisis resources. See our Safety & Crisis Protocol for details.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these circumstances:
•With other users — when kAI introduces you to a match, limited profile information (display name, bio, shared interests, city) is shared according to your sharing preferences. Direct messages are visible to both participants.
•With community members — posts, comments, and reactions you make in communities are visible to community members.
•With service providers — we use third-party processors to operate the Service (see Section 5). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations.
•For legal compliance — when required by law, legal process, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following third-party processors to deliver the Service. Our Subprocessors page lists the same providers with the categories of data each one processes and its primary operating region.
AI Models — Anthropic
Powers kAI conversations and data extraction. Conversation text is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, your data is not used to train their models.
Embeddings — Voyage AI
Generates semantic vectors from conversation summaries to enable kAI's memory search. Excerpts of your profile, conversations, and content are sent for embedding.
Database and Authentication — Supabase
Our primary system of record. Hosts all user data — profiles, conversations, messages, memories, and matches — handles authentication, and stores uploaded photos.
Age Verification — Yoti / Veriff
Under contract for biometric age verification. Age is currently established by self-attested date of birth, so no personal data is sent to either provider today. If we turn on facial estimation or document verification, these are the providers who would perform it.
Email — Resend
Delivers transactional emails such as contact form confirmations. Receives your email address, your name, and whatever the message itself contains.
Hosting and Delivery — Vercel
Runs and serves the application and its scheduled background tasks. Everything that transits a request, a response, or an operational log passes through Vercel — including your conversations with kAI.
Error Monitoring — Sentry
Receives diagnostics when something goes wrong: error messages and stack traces, a trail of the recent actions that led up to the error, and browser and request metadata. Sessions in which an error occurs are also recorded as a session replay; on-screen text, form inputs, and media are masked in those recordings, but the pages you visited and the elements you interacted with are captured. Sessions in which nothing goes wrong are not recorded.
Rate Limiting — Upstash
Holds short-lived counters that limit how often the Service can be called and that flag abusive usage patterns. Receives the IP addresses and account identifiers used as the keys for those counters.
6. Data Retention
•Chat messages with kAI — we retain your most recent conversation history (up to the latest 1,000 messages per person). Once you pass that, the oldest raw messages are condensed into AI-generated summaries and the original message text is removed. Day-level summaries are kept for 60 days; the weekly and longer-range summaries they roll up into are retained to preserve kAI's memory of your preferences and context. You can permanently delete all of your data at any time from your account settings.
•Analytics events — automatically deleted after 90 days.
•Age verification selfies — automatically deleted 365 days after a successful verification, or 30 days after a failed or inconclusive attempt. Verification outcomes (status, method, timestamp) are retained separately in our compliance records.
•Compliance records — retained permanently as required by applicable AI transparency laws for annual reporting.
•Profile and extracted data — retained while your account is active.
•Declined matches and system event logs — when you decline a match, the record of that decision is deleted after 30 days. Internal webhook event logs (used to process payments and service integrations) are also deleted after 30 days.
7. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings. When you request deletion:
1.Your account is immediately deactivated and hidden from other users.
2.A 30-day grace period begins during which you can restore your account by signing back in.
3.After 30 days, the data that belongs to you is permanently and irreversibly deleted — your profile, your conversations with kAI, extracted interests and personality data, your profile and memory-board photos, match history, community posts, and your authentication record.
4.Messages you sent to other users remain visible to them but are permanently disassociated from your account (your name and profile are removed), and the photos you shared in those messages are permanently deleted from our storage.
5.If you joined through your university, the roster entry your school provided to us — the record that made you eligible to join — is your school's education record rather than information we hold on our own behalf, so we do not delete it in response to your request. Everything in your account is deleted as described above, and the roster entry is permanently disconnected from you. It is deleted in full when your school's agreement with us ends. To have it corrected or removed sooner, contact your school.
8. Your Rights and Choices
•Access and update — you can view and edit your profile information at any time.
•Sharing preferences — you control which profile information is shared when kAI introduces you to a match.
•Delete your account — request complete deletion of your data as described in Section 7.
•Download your data — you can export a copy of the data we hold about you at any time from Settings → Account. The export is a structured JSON file, and it lists anything we have not included — and why — inside the file itself.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
•Know and access — the personal information we collect about you, the categories of sources, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
•Receive a copy in a portable format — you can download a copy of the data we hold about you at any time from Settings → Account. The export is provided as a structured JSON file, and it lists anything we have not included — and why — inside the file itself.
•Correct — inaccurate personal information we hold about you. Most profile information can be edited directly in the app; for anything else, contact us.
•Delete — your personal information, as described in Section 7.
•Limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information.
•Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
•Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We do not deny service, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service to anyone who exercises them.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@kenektic.com. We will verify your identity before acting on a request and will respond within the timeframes the law requires.
9. Children's Privacy
Kenektic is a service strictly for adults aged 18 and older. We do not direct the Service to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. At sign-up, every user must confirm a date of birth establishing that they are 18 or older; this age is self-reported, and providing false age information violates our Terms of Service.
Because the Service is for adults only, we do not offer a parental-consent flow for minors and do not knowingly serve users under 13 (and therefore do not collect information from children covered by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, “COPPA”). If we learn that an account belongs to a person under 18 — whether discovered through our own review or reported to us — we will promptly suspend and terminate that account and delete the associated personal information. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us using the details in the “Contact Us” section below so we can take action.
10. Security
We protect your information using encryption in transit (HTTPS), row-level security policies that ensure you can only access your own data, restricted storage access for sensitive files like verification selfies, and role-based access controls for administrative functions. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by other means. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, contact us at privacy@kenektic.com or through our contact page.
This policy is published in compliance with applicable U.S. state privacy and AI transparency laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California SB-243.
